New Macbook Pros for 2012?

Personally, I have never been an Apple sort of guy; I have been using windows all my life like many of my readers it seems. However lately I have been thinking that I need an upgrade from the 4 year old laptop that I have now. So I have been looking through several options and came across several articles talking about the new line of Macbook Pros that is supposedly coming out in the spring of 2012

First of all, as some of you might know, Intel will be releasing its new line of Ivy Bridge processors in around May. These processors are said to be faster and more economic. It is rumoured that the new Macbook Pros will be equipped with Ivy Bridge processors. The 2012 Macbooks Pros will also have retina display and an upgraded graphics card along with that.

But that is not the most surprising rumour about the new Macbook Pros. Rumour has it that the new Macbooks Pros will be be following the design of the Macbook Airs. Meaning a lighter machine but there will be no optical drive and less ports to connect other devices. In my opinion this would be a step in the wrong direction for Apple. Sure no one really uses CDs and DVDs any more for the most part, but they are still in use. Also, lighter is better but perhaps it should be reconsidered if making the laptop lighter will take away from its functionality. Hopefully Apple will still release regular Macbook Pros and will finally announce some news themselves on the matter soon.
